Haridwar means the gateway of lord Vishnu's abode or four holy places (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri). Haridwar is to be believed one of the four sacred places where Nectar (Amrit) was strewn about on the holy place 'HARI KI PAURI' during the clash among Deities and Devils. 'HAR KI PAURI' is the very place where over 100 million pilgrims have a holy dip in the Ganges (the second largest river in India) on MAHAKUMBH (the biggest serene gathering) after alternation of every twelve years and partly after six years. Besides Hari ki Pauri Haridwar possesses numerous temples like Chandi Devi, Mansa Devi, Bharat Mata, Gita Mandir, Bilkeshwar Mahadev, Dakash Temple, Doodhadhari Barfani Temple, Jain Temple, Maya Devi, Sureshwari Temple etc.
