Gangotri Dham – The heart of Purity

The Gangotri Dham yatra is most sacred yatra on earth. The Gangotri (गंगोत्री धाम ) shrine is located at 3200 mts. above sea level, in the Himalayas. It is located 100 kms. away from Uttarkashi. It is the place where river goddess Ganga is worshipped, and from where it starts it’s descent. Gangotri is also known for its charming scenic beauty with snow-covered peaks of Himalayas in front and river Bhagirathi flowing close by. The place makes one feel close to god. It is said that those who bath in its waters get their body and soul purified for life.

The temple looks amazing at night with lights on. The shrine was built in the 18th century on the right bank of river Ganga (Bhagirathi) by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa. Visitors can stay in ashrams located on the other side of the river, some of which provide accommodation. The shrine can be visited from May to October.
